AWARDING OF
COLOURS
District Colours and Qualification Pathway
This applies to ALL sport codes including gymnastics.
Withdrawal due to illness or injury resulting in not competing – the rules below will apply.
LEVEL 1 - 3
At Cape Town District trials you can qualify for District colours. Please note that these colours are not provincial colours, only regional.
To compete at Western Cape Championships, you need to qualify at the Cape Town District Trials as part of the Cape Town District Team.
You have not represented Western Cape and therefore do not get the clothing that goes hand in hand with such representation. You cannot advise your school that you represented as part of the Cape Town team until you have competed at at Western Cape Champs.
LEVEL 4 and up
At the Cape Town District Trials, gymnasts have the opportunity to earn District Colours.
Please note: District Colours are regional honours and do not constitute Provincial Colours.
To qualify for the Western Cape Championships, gymnasts must compete at the Cape Town District Trials and be selected as part of the Cape Town District Team.
Western Cape Colours and National Qualification
At the Western Cape Championships, gymnasts have the opportunity to be selected for the Western Cape Team, which represents the province at the South African National Gymnastics Games.
Athletes may also qualify for Western Cape Colours at this level.
These are official provincial colours, awarded in recognition of excellence and achievement at a provincial standard.
Important Notice Regarding Provincial Colours
Please note:
If a gymnast does not participate in the South African National Gymnastics Games (SA Gym Games) after being selected, they are considered not to have represented
the province.
As a result, they will not be awarded Western Cape
Colours, nor will they receive the official provincial
clothing associated with such representation.
You may not inform your school or any other institution
that you have received provincial colours until you
have competed at Nationals.
If you do not attend Nationals, you may only state
that you qualified for Western Cape Colours — not that you were awarded them.
At Nationals – if you come first in your level and age group, you are the SA champion for that group for that year.
You DO NOT receive SA colours and are not in the SA Gymnastics Team.
This can only happen after you have completed Olympic Level or chosen by Gymnastics South Africa to represent South Africa internationally.
There are 3 SA Teams you can be chosen for:
-
Protea Colours
-
Federation Colours
-
Region 5 Colours
